John Denver became a star thanks to the folk songs he wrote, most of which were located in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. grew up in Roswell new Mexico, but was enthralled by Colorado. The singer-songwriter eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's most popular songs about his adopted home state inspired many visitors to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame said the following: John Denver is the only artist to represent Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame to be inducted into the hall. Denver has become the image of Colorado to many around the world. On my trips I've encountered people who are from New Zealand or the other side. If you inform that you're from Colorado The first thing they'll use are Oh John Denver. Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo performer after a brief time in small folk groups. Danoff had originally written the tune to Johnny Cash's tune with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver knew from the first moment he listened to the earlier versions that it was going to be an instant popular. The singer recorded the song within a couple of days following a performance to the awe-inspiring crowd at Washington D.C.
